Emily Louise Partridge believe that in debating there is constant room for improvement and one is never too old or experienced to stop asking for feedback from others. For Emily, debating is not just about making good arguments, it is about convincing judges that those arguments are good. Emily coaches students strategically visualising how arguments fit together with each other, and stepping the judge through those complex logical chains in the simplest way possible. To me, the biggest indicator of growth is stepping outside of your comfort zone, even if that means performing poorly when you do it for the first time. The only way to become an excellent debater is to start by being an average one, and then a skilled one - it doesn't just come to you on the first try. I think students improve the most when their coach helps them feel confident and supported to take risks and make mistakes, and when their coach invests time into understanding their personality, their learning style, and their strongest assets.
