Prepared Motions for Australasian Juniors Debate Championships 2025
24 October 2025
As the Australasian Juniors Debate Championships draws near, anticipation is building for one of the most defining elements of the tournament—the prepared motions. Unlike impromptu rounds that test fast thinking and adaptability, prepared rounds challenge participants to dive deeper, conduct meaningful research, and craft sophisticated arguments grounded in global issues and philosophical reflection.
This year’s prepared motions tackle two powerful themes: climate responsibility and the nature of morality and divinity. These motions are deliberately designed to test not just a debater’s logic, but their empathy and ability to weigh competing values.

Round 2
Motion: This house believes that rich countries should do more to fight climate change than poor countries.
Info: Rich countries (also called developed countries) are nations with strong economies, advanced technology, and higher living standards (e.g., USA, Germany, Japan).
Poor countries (developing countries) have weaker economies, less technology, and lower living standards (e.g., Bangladesh, Kenya, Nepal).
Climate change means long-term changes in the Earth’s climate caused mainly by greenhouse gases from human activity.
Examples of its effects include rising sea levels, stronger storms, droughts, and floods.

Grand Finals
Motion: This house would rather live in a world where God sometimes does wrong things than in a world where God is always right.
Info: In this debate, “a world where God sometimes does wrong things” means a world where God can make mistakes or act unfairly, just like humans sometimes do. “A world where God is always right” means God never makes mistakes and everything He does is always good and perfect.

By releasing these motions ahead of time, we aim to elevate the level of debate and encourage participants to go beyond surface-level arguments. These topics invite critical thinking and global awareness—hallmarks of what the Australasian Juniors Debate Championships stands for.
As teams begin preparing their cases, we look forward to seeing how young speakers interpret these ideas and bring them to life with passion, creativity, and conviction. The journey to the championship title begins now.
